Difference Between TEFL and CELTA

There isn’t much difference between TEFL and CELTA!

When considering teaching English abroad, many people usually narrow it down to TEFL, TESOL and CELTA courses.

The very basic difference between TEFL and CELTA refers to what they stand for. The former stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language But the latter is Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

TEFL is proper for teachers who plan to teach in a non-English country. The focus of the class is on language systems (e.g. grammar and vocabulary) and skills (e.g. reading and listening).

CELTA is specifically affiliated with Cambridge University. So think of CELTA as a branded version of a generic TESOL course. A CELTA is for people who are certain they want to pursue a career (two years or more) teaching English, either at home or abroad.

Difference in Content
